Steelers 0 - 5 Cardiff Devils

Sheffield Steelers Post Game Podcast

It was a one to forget for the Steelers tonight as they went down 5 goals to 0 against the Cardiff Devils in Elite League action.

Before the game got underway, on this Remembrance Sunday they took the time to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, those that gave their today for our tomorrow. As the crowd inside the Ultilita Arena showed their respect with silence, a wreath was laid and a beautiful rendition of Flanders Fields was shown on the big screen read out by the players.

It was the same squad for the Steelers which played the previous night in Nottingham with Rok Stojanovic getting the nod as starting netminder, although Rok and Barry Brust would swap positions on two occasions throughout the game.

It was bang, bang, bang for the Devils in the first period as they lead by three goals at the first intermission.

3.30 – The first goal scored by Sam Duggan at the backpost as he was found by Brandon McNally with a great saucer pass.

6.58 – The next was a broken play which saw the Devils go three on one with a single Steelers defenceman but Justin Crandall took the shot after taking the puck over the blue line and found the top corner past Stojanovic.

12.19 – The final goal of the period was scored by Cole Sandford assisted by Brodie Dupoint.

The third goal saw the first change of netminder for the Steelers as Brust made his way onto the ice.

It was another two goals for the Devils in the second period with no reply for the Steelers as the game was pretty much sealed with 20 minutes still to play.

20.27 – It took the Devils only 4 seconds to take advantage of a powerplay as Dixon won the face-off cleanly and a shot by Matt Register was tipped in by Brandon McNally.

25.29 – With the Steelers being kept in their own zone, Cole Sandford found the puck in the slot and spun and beat Brust low. Cox and Dupont picking up the assists on the goal.

Ellerby went on to be ejected from the game for a check to the head which was followed by a quick scrap between Mark Louis and Ellerby.

Apart from one penalty against Latal for hooking in the third, there was nothing to write home about as the Devils eased their way to victory tonight.

Mac Carruth picked up the Man of the Match for the Devils for his shut out and Captain Jonathan Phillips picked up the Steelers Man of the Match award.

No home games next weekend as the Steelers are off to Denmark in Continental Cup action.
